18 month pile of pig............

Manure?  Do you realize that since she has had two sets of Pigs (at least) in that time, that subsequent pigs lived in that filth?  Replete with their predecessors brain matter splattered in it?  I cannot believe how disgusting she is.  The concept of "deep pile bedding" means that you add fresh bedding quite often to keep the top dry, and then you clean it out as necessary.  Eighteen months of manure?  THE SMELL, not sure if you have been around pigs, but they are well known for their, shall we say odoriferous output...  That picture.. that absolutely stinking filthy mess, that is just obscene.  I would DIE before I would allow an animal to live in  that mess.  Those poor pigs.  Probably had to butcher them as they were just about hitting the barn ceiling...

I'm not one to stick up for Jenna blindly, and I see MANY issues with her "farm" and her constantly asking for money just because she has a blog (LOTS of much better writers never ask for anything for their blogs.).

But I think part of the issue with the 18 month pile of pig bedding was poor writing and lack of clarity about it. I believe I recall her writing about cleaning out the pig stall before the last 2 pigs. That probably got dumped somewhere. Anyway.....

More money talk over at Jenna's blog. She wants subscribers, after wanting people to hire her as a mentor (Indy Days), buy season passes, and pay premium dollar for possessions she wants to sell.

I would have stopped reading awhile ago but it's a little bit entertaining, wondering where it will go.

I think I read something about cleaning it too, but that may have been a lie.. she sounds too proud about having 18 months of manure for her garden. If you know pigs, you cannot imagine the smell- trust me! She's running out of options... You can only tap a tree so long before you need to find new trees... and she's used up most of her trees.

First, I do agree with you, but you also made me smile. I spend a lot of time in Vermont, which suffered a lot in the down economy but is full of resourceful people. You'd be surprised how people are always finding trees. Trees to tap for maple syrup. Trees to cut down or claim after a storm for kindling and heat. Trees to use for whatever walnut and oak get used for... floors, furniture, art....

Jenna is just a few miles from the border of VT but often badmouths it because she rented in a place where people questioned what she did. Jenna's badmouthing of VT is misplaced. Most of my time in VT is also just across the border from NY but it has dairy and horse farms and people living lives with livestock and not calling it a farm and just doing it. Maybe Jenna got complaints because they were deserved.

You are right about not trusting Jenna's facts.

Your tree analogy made me smile.
